The institute's mission is basic and applied research in geodesy and cadastre, developing and testing new technologies, methods and software and professional consultation in areas of:
• Creation and management of Cadastre of Real Estate Information System (ISKN)
• Creation and management of geographic information systems
• Geodesy, geodynamics
• Engineering geodesy
• Metrology and standardization in the fields of Geodesy and Cadastre
• Creation and maintenance of maps
• Qualities of geospatial data according to ČSN EN ISO 19157
• Development of user applications over data of surface digital model of the Czech Republic
• Photogrammetry and remote sensing
• Development and production of special tools, equipment and measurement systems for geodesy and cartography.
• The institute runs Authorized Metrological Centre, Accredited Calibration Laboratory, Surveying Library®. The Institute holds state accreditation as educational institution.
